9 Ways to Build Trust on YouTube

Gabriel Leblanc-Picard · February 2024

On YouTube, trust is one of the most important things you can have with your audience. It's not just a nice-to-have. It's the foundation everything else is built on.

Without it, even the flashiest videos, biggest budgets, or cleverest hooks will eventually fall flat.

Here are 9 bullet points I always keep in mind when thinking about trust. These are battle-tested lessons from my 7 years of YouTube experience and now running Upload Strategy.

1. Post good shit

Consistently delivering quality content shows that you're in it for the long haul. Viewers trust consistency. It's comforting. They know they can rely on you to show up with something worth their time.

2. Keep it real

Authenticity is magnetic. When you're genuine, viewers feel that real connection. Trust becomes a no-brainer.

3. Engage

Jump into the comments or interact in other ways. It shows you actually value their voice. A two-way conversation creates a community vibe where trust is just part of the equation.

4. Clear the air

Be transparent about sponsorships and partnerships. Viewers respect upfront honesty. It screams integrity.

5. Deliver value

Make sure your videos actually enrich their day. Whether you're entertaining, informing, teaching, or inspiring. You stop being "just another YouTuber" and become a genuine value provider your audience relies on.

6. Stay your course

Keep a steady, consistent message and avoid flip-flopping. When viewers know exactly what you stand for, their trust solidifies.

7. Share your world

Let them in on personal bits of your life and behind-the-scenes moments. It's like saying "I trust you" first. And they almost always trust you back.

8. Know your stuff

Become the undisputed expert in your niche. When you're the go-to person for your topic, respect (and trust) follows naturally.

9. Own up

Admit mistakes quickly and openly. It shows humility and integrity. Your audience sees that you value honesty over looking perfect.

Final reminder

Trust is fragile. You don't earn it once and keep it forever. You have to protect and nurture it every single day.
